Mike Jenkins wasn’t going to let anything stand in the way of seeing his daughter get married. And Sparrow Caregivers helped fulfill his wish to watch her wed. “A good medical team cares for you and about you,” Jenkins said. “And really … that’s what it’s all about. It’s not just caring for you, it’s caring about you, too, as a person.”
Compassion is a core value at Sparrow. Because Caregiver Ellie Idalski makes a habit of trying to walk a mile in the shoes of Patients, she also lets Patients walk in her shoes.
Sparrow has combined with our partner, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, for innovative care that transform lives. Our own Caregiver, Cindy Pohl, lost use of her arm after a car accident nearly two decades ago. Go behind the scenes to see how Mary Free Bed’s technology and continued physical therapy at Sparrow have changed her life.
Innovation and compassion are part of our core values at Sparrow. Nurse Kellye Youngs worked with her teenage son Sebastian, who is autistic, to develop a wheeled cart that has more than a dozen tools to help Patients with autism feel more comfortable with their stays. It makes all the difference in communicating with this special group of people and it’s part of Sparrow’s extraordinary and transformative care.
Believe it or not, there’s a non-human side to transforming care at Sparrow. Our therapy dogs are valuable members of the Sparrow team, providing innovative care that’s been shown to relax and comfort Patients and Visitors alike. National research reflects the success of pet therapy as a healing tool. Sparrow’s new dog therapy trading cards shine the spotlight on these canine superstars and have become extremely popular.
